DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Aquatics Supervisor develops & implements, facilitates, supervises and evaluates programs. Is responsible for Aquatics programming including training and supervision of lifeguard staff; Adventure Club and camp assistance, safety and training facilitation for all staff, swim coaches, personal training and group fitness contractor administration.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for the training and supervision of lifeguards, lead lifeguards and pool managers
- Responsible for the training and supervision of swim instructors and private swim instructors including appropriate scheduling of staff
- Responsible for the supervision of the Responsible for researching, designing, planning, coordinating and evaluating educational opportunities and programs
- Conducts CPR and First Aid classes annually for all aquatics staff on an annual basis and for all other staff requiring CPR/1st Aid certification every two years
- Assist of the pool maintenance program
- Trains and supervises Junior Guard and the scheduling of Junior Guards
- Creates Lap Pool schedule
- Creates and oversees teen programs including, but not limited to, Jr. Guard, CABS, swim camp, lessons
- Must be able to independently rescue individuals in distress from the swimming pool, lap pool and diving areas.
- Ensures the quality of the all programs through training of employees, contracted staff and monitoring of facilities
- Participates as facilitator for aquatics program
- Works to promote programs through proactive marketing and presentation to the public
- Collaborates with other departments to ensure positive public relations
- Responsible and accountable for the financial results of their outlined areas of responsibility
- Prepares and manages fiscal budget, controls costs and generates revenue
- Prepares and analyzes reports and public surveys relating to programs, attendance, program evaluation, interests, special events, etc
- Performs employee scheduling, payroll, weekly status reports, employee performance reviews, staff expectations, discipline, terminations, staff meetings and new hire orientations
- In conjunction with Communications Department, prepares newsletters and brochures for programs
- Orders and controls supplies and equipment; maintains accurate inventory
- Prepares newsletters and brochures for programs in conjunction with Communications Department
- Ensures web portal contains current program information and announcements
- Manages various contracts for services
- Works to ensure departmental and organizational goals and objectives are fulfilled
- Schedules appropriate staff levels, reviews time off requests, and approves bi-weekly payroll for processing
- Consults with HR on escalated employee issues
- Works with HR to ensure proper staffing levels and conducts interviews for open positions
- Confers with HR on payroll, worker’s compensation, safety and all other responsibilities related to human resource compliance
- Performs work of those supervised as necessary
- Ensures programs are accurately entered in to Civic Rec, both by entering in directly and/or supervising staff entering in the information
- Responsible for providing timely information to be included in each Activity Guide
- Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are an essential function of this position
- Acts as manager on duty on evenings and weekends as designated
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Programs
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education and Experience: degree in Parks and Recreation, Health Services, or other related field preferred
- Minimum age – 21
- Knowledge of objectives and principles of administration of public recreation programs
- Supervisory experience required
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite required
- Capable of working hours to include extended hours, evenings, weekends, holidays and Anthem signature events as necessary
- Knowledge of current principles and practices related to the coordination of a comprehensive community recreation program
- Must have aptitude for detail, highly effective interpersonal and problem solving skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills; adherence to ACC company values (Anthem Way) are also required
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups encountered in fulfilling job requirements
- Self-disciplined, self-motivated and able to work both independently and in a team environment
- Knowledge of Standard First Aid, CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens procedures, CPR, AED & First Aid certifications are required within 90 days of employment
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance card (preferred or able to obtain in first 60 days)
- Must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations or sign decline waiver
- Valid Lifeguard Instructor Card (SGE preferred)
- USA Swimming Coach certification preferred (or able to obtain in first 60 days)
- Schedule is flexible and variable within our 7-day work week working mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends; some holidays
- Work location– Anthem Community Center – 41130 N. Freedom Way, Anthem
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be physically and intellectually capable of operating a personal computer, printer, facsimile machine, phone, and various other routine business equipment items
- Ability to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing
- Must be able to speak, read and write English so that various types of communication may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities both in person and over the phone
- Perform physical activities (possibly for extended periods of time) that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, with a full range of motions including walking, sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, lifting, and carrying
- Position requires ability to exert minimal force of up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 60 pounds of force to move objects
- Must be able to independently rescue individuals in distress from the swimming pool, lap pool and diving areas.
- Ability to transport oneself around office and community
- Must be physically able to handle the unexpected movements of children which may include abrupt or unexpected movements such as a child(ren) climbing on your back, jumping up to have you catch them, etc.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes, and delays
- Must remain alert to working conditions and aware of safety, health, and environmental concerns
- Must be able to work effectively with positive attitude and demeanor in an environment which may be stressful due to adversarial situations resulting from the proper performance of duties
- Position will alternate between working indoors in a controlled climate to an outdoors setting with variable climate
- Personal protective equipment (PPEs) to include proper footwear, headgear, and maintenance attire should be worn for protection as appropriate
- The employee may be in the vicinity of site-specific vegetation and native species of reptiles and mammals, subjecting the employee to possible injury from contact or bites
- This is a safety sensitive position
