Parents: Please Help Keep Our Kids Safe in Anthem!

Home Posted on January 27, 2026

We’ve recently seen an increase in children riding e-bikes, dirt bikes, bicycles and playing inside the washes and 404 protected areas. While it may look like a fun place to explore, these areas can be dangerous—and using them for recreation can also result in community rule violations. In addition, the Anthem washes are regulated under section 404 of the clean water act. These areas are defined as Natural Area Open Space (NAOS) and must be maintained forever in their current natural desert state.

Why it matters:
• Violation of Federal law, The EPA and the Army Corp of Engineers have the authority to enforce compliance through administrative compliance orders, civil penalties, and even criminal actions.
• Protected Habitat: The 404 areas are environmentally sensitive and must remain undisturbed.
• Safety Concerns: Uneven terrain, hidden debris, and wildlife can create unsafe conditions.
• Possible Trespassing: Using these areas for biking or play may lead to enforcement action under community regulations.

How you can help:
Please remind your children to stay out of the washes and protected zones, and encourage them to use our parks, pathways, and designated play areas instead.

Together, we can keep our kids—and our community—safe.
