Mask policies: Impacts to Anthem

On June 17, 2020, Governor Ducey authorized local governments to adopt policies regarding the wearing of face coverings in public to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The Anthem Community Council (ACC) is not a city or town with legislative powers as outlined in this order. For Anthem, the City of Phoenix (west of I-17) or Maricopa County (east of I-17) are the governing bodies with the authority to issue such policies; both the Phoenix City Council and Maricopa County Board of Supervisors held special meetings on June 19.

The Phoenix City Council, with a vote of 7-2, approved a mask policy on June 19; detailed information regarding the policy is located on the city of Phoenix's website. This policy affects areas of Anthem west of I-17.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a mask policy on June 19; details about the policy are posted on the county website (or read the full proclamation).  Anthem east of I-17 is in unincorporated Maricopa County.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases in Arizona, the ACC continues to encourage our employees and residents to observe healthy behaviors to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
