Another section of Anthem medians and streetsides will get granite treatment the week of Feb. 20. The ACC Parks and Facilities Department, along with BrightView Landscapes, will distribute more than 900 tons of "four inch minus, desert spice" granite.
In 2015, the team installed 900 tons of granite from Freedom Way to Maidstone Way, in the medians and on both sides of the road. The following year, granite was distributed from Maidstone Way to Liberty Bell Way. This year, the project picks up at Liberty Bell Way, and granite will be laid over the current granite on the north side of Anthem Way to N. Anthem Ridge Drive (fourth Country Club entrance). The project, which includes another 900 tons, will also include the median from Liberty Bell Way (at Meridian) to Daisy Mountain Drive.
"We have to find spots where we can start and stop that are natural within the landscape," said Jim Metcalf, director of Parks and Facilities. "Cross streets are a good bet, but also allow natural transitioning of the older granite with the new."
The project will begin on Monday, Feb. 20. Because it is a holiday, school will not be in session. "We'll get a strong start with no school traffic, and it's a little easier for the residents that way, too," Metcalf said. There will be no lane closures or street closures involved. Metcalf advises residents to proceed with caution around the flashing arrow trucks distributing the granite. "Arms on the truck spray the granite, and crews guard the plants with plywood along the way. It's a pretty smooth and very fast-moving process," he said.
Granite distribution is expected to be complete within the week.
